$18 Dollars for a Condominium?

My Dear is back from her business trip yesterday. :)
I applied a day leave today (Monday) to accompany her since she is also off.
Therefore... I took the opportunity to catch some World Cup action late last night too... :p

Before she went for her trip a week ago, she reminded me to fix our toilet bowl issue. The water was overflowing and dripping excess water thought the overflow pipe. It can be irritating at times especially to my wife. This problem had been a while and I actually fixed it few months back. But it came back...

I did do some troubleshooting last week (haha... sounds very engineering) and found the root cause. The mechanism of the valve was spoilt, so despite trying something innovative (see my modified part on right of picture!), it was still leaking.

I explained the "complex" problem to my wife so that she will not scold me for not fixing the problem... :p
Then she said... "Toilet spoilt... no choice have to buy a condominium now..." with a smile.
Yah right??!? Toilet leaking and I have to pay over $1M for a new place or rather a toilet bowl?!? Very funny hor Dear...

New and Old Parts
Then we were having lunch outside just now, we walked past a bathroom shop. My wife said "You want to look for the part to fix the toilet?" Kana arrowed... Hahaha... just joking.
Good thing she spotted the shop, and I got the required part for $18 dollars!

And now, the rest is history... Fixing it is a piece of cake... haha... :)
Heng... spent $18 to save $1.8M.... -_-'''

What's Good... What's Flop...

Some of the teams played their second games in the 1st round...
Here are an example of good team and an example of a total flop...

Guess who...? "Best" team in the world (often overrated)... England...
- England 1 USA 1
- England 0 Algeria 0

It's a SAVE!!
Oh... It's a GOAL...
What the F...?!?
Argentina had played well so far against odds. They had earlier struggled to qualify for the South Africa trip but have done reasonably well in the tournament.
- Argentina 1 Nigeria 0
- Argentina 4 S Korea 1
Though the defence looked shaky at times, the attacking is great. Let's see how they match up to tougher opponents later.
Messi showed signs of brilliance
Maradona showed his power of "Hand of God" again...

Game On...

Two weeks into the World Cup month... I'm already feeling "heaty"... feverish (really feeling a bit sick liao). But I will continue to watch the games every night at my nearby CC! :p

Till date, I only watched one 230am game. That was last weekend England game. Too tried to stay up for the 230am games on weekdays. Probably will catch this time slot on this weekend?

So far the game produced some shock (Switerland beat Spain) and some high scoring (Argentina vs S Korea). Overall, it is great. I'm not betting so far... enjoying the beautiful game, cheering every single goal opportunity and supporting whichever team is performing well!
I'm loving it... (Hmm... sounds familiar...)

My wife will be on business trip next week, so I will be alone to enjoy the World Cup in Singapore.

Everyone getting "Sick"...

Soak in the atmosphere!

I was at a nearby community centre last night to catch the Day#2 of the World Cup. The atmosphere was superb! Think the area housed around 200~300 people at its peak during the second game of the night (Argentina vs Nigeria). People who were slightly late had to either stand or sit on the floor. There were cheers and shouts at critical moments (goals, near misses..), less abuse languages though. Feels like watching Malaysia Cup in stadium long time back... Fantastic feeling!

It might be blessing in disguise that cable-TV subscription is high and I did not subscript for it. Soaking in this atmosphere, watching soccer with the rest of the world cup fans is great! Furthermore, the CC is in walking distance to my place. Credits to the PA (People Association) too! If their aim is to put the community together and provide community services, they definitely do the talking! Good job!
I will be visiting the CC very often in the coming weeks... :)

My friend and I went to a nearby coffee shop instead for the 230am game (England vs USA). As expected, the crowd was smaller given the late timing and the longer interval between 2nd and 3rd game. We waited for ~2 hour for the game... Almost dozed off... haha
When it's about to kick off, all the England fans started to turn up. Well... Though I watched EPL and my favorite team is Tottenham, I never really supported England in international tournaments. Strange right?... :p Maybe I just felt that they are always overrated given that most people is only aware of English players and league. And the media seem to always played up the "Dream team of EPL"... Quite shallow...

I had no plans to bet too much $ on this World Cup, maybe for some fun. I discovered that the only way to really enjoy football is to stay neutral and hope that the better team on that day wins. Then you will enjoy the game without bias (unless that's your favorite team).

I think I'm getting a bit sick... I think everyone is getting a bit sick...
We are getting fever...
World Cup fever...

World Cup 2010 Kicked Off!

World Cup 2010 officially kicked off yesterday at South Africa!
The much waited once every 4 years tournament got under way with the 1st game between host South Africa against Mexico.

There was 2 games last night, one which was showed on free-to-air while the 2nd game was on paid-cable. Much talked about high subscription fees for the cable TV...
I was planning to catch the 1st game at the comfort of my home and then go some where to catch the 2nd. Ended up... I got held up at a customer dinner, followed up by rushing to fetch my wife home from in-law place... End of the day, I only watched ~5min of the South Africa vs Mexico game. Then I fell asleep and missed the 2nd game as well with some of my friends waiting for me to plan go out to catch the France vs Uruguay match. :p

Will plan a proper schedule for tonight! Some CC and McDonald's are screening the games, so you can probably find me at some of these area in the next 1 month! Bet I will be joined by crowds who refused to paid to Singtel and Starhub for the overpriced cable TV.

I had some betting going around with a group of colleagues just for fun. My choice of favorites for the winner is year is between Brazil and Spain. My surprise semi-finalist is Serbia... Let's see how it goes. ;)

The ultimate prize... World Cup!
Goooaaal...!!

Marina Sands

The 2nd casino (Marina Sands) had been opened for few weeks, but it was the first time I visited the place yesterday. It was a Saturday night so I guessed it was more crowded.
Well, my wife and I did not gamble in the casino, just visiting the area outside and the new hotel. The shopping complex is still not fully opened. The last time when we went Resort World, the other casino, it was not yet opened so it's difficult to make any comparison between 2 of them. But the Sands seem to be attracting lots of visitors or rather gamblers...

One interesting observation was... there were a lot of Malaysian cars in the car park. Can see that the new attraction had managed to bring in some "tourists"...

Talking about car park... it's $8 for the 1st hour!! Damn expensive! I had to pay $10 for around 1.5 hours... There are a few good spots and scenery though. Will likely back again... for scenery or trying my luck...?? Hmmm...
